Collage Fiber Arts Basics Class

Explore collage quilting as a fiber art medium to enhance your artistic or quilting endeavors. This no-sew make and take class introduces students to the beauty of fabric collage, with a current focus on creating bird designs. Our projects will vary each month, so please inquire about the featured project before enrolling.
This month, we offer an owl as an option, but other bird designs like hummingbirds are also available.
Materials Needed:

Fabrics cut to 4 ½” x 4” (students can bring their own or purchase and cut fabric at the store)

Fiber Art Collage Fabric Kits available with a variety of lights, medium & darks precut into the size needed for class.

Kits available for purchase prior or during class.

One package (five sheets) of Steam-A-Seam 2 Light (available for purchase at Quilt Corner)

Small scissors (highly recommend Karen Kay Buckley brand also at store!)

Medium sharp-pointed scissors
-
Tweezers
-
2 to 3 quilting pins (long pins recommended)

Ziploc quart-size baggies
-
Background fabric (half yard recommended)

Scraps (1/8 yard of fabric, sub-cut into 4 ½” x 4” blocks)

Optional: Additional fabric scraps to share or trade with classmates

Instructional handout (provided only at the time of class)
Class Highlights:

No sewing machine required.

Encouraged to continue with thread, stitching, and painting at home.

Throw pillows (edges may fray; wash on a gentle cycle if used)
Fabric Suggestions: (Color values will be taught in class)

Realism: Use browns, oranges, tans, blacks, and yellows.

Pop Art: A rainbow of colors and patterns.
Finishing Tips: Embrace your creativity and personal color preferences. There’s no right or wrong choice in fabric selection. Use this class to step out of your comfort zone and experiment with different styles. Duplicate the pattern or project as much as you want with your own skills, creating unique pieces that reflect your artistic vision.
